CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Civitan Club hosted the Greater Area 12 Special Olympics Track and Field event at Austin Peay State University’s Fortera Stadium on Friday.

Clarksville Police officers ran the torch into the field to start the event. County Mayor Wes Golden, Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and Col. Andrew Jordan, garrison commander of Fort Campbell, spoke words of encouragement to all of the athletes.

Athletes of all ages participated in games such as the 50 Meter Dash, and the Softball Throw.

Also at the Special Olympics, Clarksville Now’s Lee Erwin, who emceed the event, was honored by Civitan with the Servant’s Heart Award.
