CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Close to 300 athletes took the football field at Kenwood High School Friday for the Special Olympics of Greater Clarksville. Volunteers, led by Kenwood JROTC, with around 100 cadets, along with other groups helped make the day an exciting success.

Co-Director of the local Special Olympics program, Tonya Golden, said the athletes came from Montgomery County, Stewart County and Fort Campbell. Games included softball throw, standing and running long jump, 50, 100, and 200-meter run, wheelchair events and more.

Organizations participating included Progressive Directions Inc., NIA Association, Sunrise Community, children from local schools and a group of independent athletes.

“Our theme this year was ‘Choose to Include’ which means that everybody is involved, everybody belongs, and that’s part of the Special Olympics goal which is to make sure every voice is heard and everyone gets to participate,” said Golden.
