CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Polls closed at 7 p.m. in Montgomery, Houston, and Stewart Counties for the Special Election for State Senate District 22 Primary.

This special primary election will lead Republican nominee Bill Powers and Democratic nominee Juanita Charles to the general election April 23. Powers and Charles will be joined by two independent candidates, Doyle Clark and David L. Cutting.

The winner of the special general election will fill now-US Congressman Mark Green’s TN Senate seat until the term ends next year.

Jeff Burkhart 30.9%
Jason Knight 11.3%
Bill Powers 39.1%

Democrat

Juanita Charles 99.2%


With a low voter turnout overall, only 6 percent in Montgomery County, it is unclear what prevented voters from exercising their right.
