CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Association for Down syndrome (CADS) awarded technology grants to schools in Montgomery, Cheatham, Robertson, Stewart and Christian counties as part of the organization’s most significant program, Technology for Teachers. This is the third set of grants awarded by CADS (for a total of 46 iPads), which is funded by individual donations, sponsorships from the community, and a partnership with HH Gregg.
Technology for Teachers is a grant-based initiative to provide special education teachers within the nine counties we serve with touch screen technologies to support the academic and social success of children with Down syndrome and other disabilities. The technology must be used for developmental and educational activities which enhance the applicant’s ability to deliver instruction to their students with special needs. Applications for the grant must indicate how the tool will be used in the classroom including specific applications to achieve classroom goals.
CADS is committed to improving the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities through community programs and family connections. CADS is excited to announce that the organization received a $25,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS). The grant will enable us to continue the Technology for Teachers program and continue to impact the special needs community in the nine counties we serve. Executive Director Tricia Hanna states getting touch technology into the classroom enhances the overall learning and comprehension as well as provides opportunities for special needs students to experience SUCCESS!
“The UPS Foundation is honored to support the efforts of CADS and their Technology for Teachers program,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. “Our goal is to fund powerful programs that make a lasting difference to the global community.
CADS will open up grant opportunities to Special Education teachers again in September 2014. Applicants interested in applying for the grant should look on the CADS website at CADSTN.org beginning in September.
