CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Arts & Heritage Development Council is excited to partner with Central Civitan in sponsoring a self-guided tour showcasing the work of creative folks who live in Montgomery County south of the Cumberland River. Join them for a day of artistic exploration at the South of the River Tour d’Arts this Saturday, July 9.

Here is the list of eight artists’ studios that will be open for you to visit. Begin the tour and get a map at Salem Community Church (2269 Seven Mile Ferry Road, Clarksville). The tour will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., culminating in an outdoor reception with live music at 3:30 p.m.

1. Sew Simple Quilt Club, 2269 Seven Mile Ferry Road, Clarksville TN

Sew Simple Quilt Club was founded in 2006. “We strive to inspire our members toward their quilting goals. We enjoy sharing our love of quilts with the people around us.”

2. Peggy Bonnington / Pegfolly Arts, 1451 Zinc Plant Road, Clarksville TN

Pegfolly Arts offers outdoor art forms to include music, Zen garden, tai chi, qigong, bamboo gardening and bamboo structures, and paintings. pegfollyarts.weebly.com

3. Shipley Pottery, 3281 Seven Mile Ferry Road, Clarksville

Find some handmade gifts for your friends and family, or yourself! We offer pottery, handwoven clothing, chainmaille jewelry, and metal works. Ken Shipley is a retired professor of art at Austin Peay State University. He has worked in ceramics for over 30 years and began his career as an apprentice. Melody’s work has been sold and exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally. She conducts workshops and teaches classes in pottery. www.shipleypottery.com

4. Cunningham Quilters, 3600 Seven Mile Ferry Road, Clarksville

Cunningham Quilters was founded about six years ago for beginning quilters to be supported by more experienced quilters. Members have made traditional and modern bedcovers, table runners, tote bags, aprons, and placemats. Currently, members are creating and donating blankets for the fragile babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Tennova. These blankets must meet exact specifications of the dedicated nurses. Cunningham Quilters look forward to sharing their art and craft with you – in fabric and other media.

5. Leo Adames, 130 Mary’s Way, Cunningham

This studio location will feature works of various subject matter. There will be samplings of silkscreen prints, monoprints, still life, and landscape paintings. Formerly an art teacher for over 25 years, Leo enjoys contributing his talents to the Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar and church celebrations.

6. Paula Baggett Edwards, 474 Hwy 13, Cunningham

Paula has exhibited in Clarksville and Nashville and received awards from Riverfest, 2Rivers Plein Air Paint Out, and the Blueberry Festival. Her work has been published in AHDC’s C Is for Clarksville on the Cumberland, Oncology on Canvas, and the Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar. Artwork in her studio will exhibit a variety of her works to include “South of the River” and artwork of her mother, Mary Lou Baggett, who has won numerous awards in the Riverfest Art Experience exhibits.

7. Mike Andrews’ Sculpture Studio, 2181 Hwy 13, Cunningham

“Really, I’m an art teacher at MCES who from time to time creates art. My wife and I have lived in this area for close to 30 years and we love it here on this side of the river. I have worked at all three of the Central schools and my children went to school here. As an artist I just create what I like and I like what I create.” Mike has had a one-man exhibit at Customs House Museum and Cultural Center and worked with his students to shape the Forged by Fire sculpture on the Upland Trail. He has served on both the city’s and the county’s public art committees.

8. Jim Diehr / Longthunder Studio, 5015 Bryant Hollow Road, Cunningham

Jim Diehr has shown his paintings and sculpture locally, regionally, and nationally. In 2021-22 Jim’s works were shown in a one-man Sculpture and Paintings show at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. His watercolor painting was the signature piece for the Flying High Auction. In 2018 the Tennessee Watercolor Society chose his watercolor painting to be a part of the statewide traveling tour and a sculpture was juried into the Best of Tennessee Crafts Exhibit. He has shown in juried shows in the Evansville, Indiana, Art Museum, in St. Louis, and in a juried national show in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His sculptures were shown at the Nashville Airport in summer of 2017. His works are found in many private and cooperate collections. 9. Erin’s Farm, 3:30 p.m. Reception, 7000 Hodges Road, Cunningham

Erin’s Farm has Christmas trees and blueberries spread out on acres of beautiful Tennessee land. Established in 1991 by Gary & Linda Hamm, 1st generation farmers, Erin’s Farm offers Christmas trees, blueberries and more.
