CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A new phone scam targeting Montgomery County citizens uses a sophisticated operating system to confuse callers.
According to Sandra Brandon with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the scammer calls and says the victim owes money to the Sheriff’s Office for missed jury duty or an outstanding warrant. The scammer then gives them a number to call back.
This number is 931-233-3625.
The number leads to an automated voice message that sounds very similar to MCSO in an attempt to fool the caller. The message goes on for about two minutes before directing the caller to menu options.
“This is scamming on a level we have not seen,” Brandon said.
MCSO does not call citizens and ask for money over the phone. If you believe you are the victim of a phone scam, call MCSO at 931-648-0611.
