CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A group of soldiers of 1st BCT of the 101st Airborne Division are banding together this weekend to collect blankets and cold-weather clothing for homeless veterans.

“Me and a couple of my buddies are going to be sleeping outside for 24 hours,” said Army Specialist Justin Mucciolo, who organized “Operation Brave the Cold,” which is going on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12-13 at Love Blood Ink Custom Tattoo on Fort Campbell Blvd.

“This is a donation point for blankets, hats, gloves or anything to help local homeless vets stay warm during the winter,” Mucciolo told Ryan and Gretchen in the Morning on Q108.

“I noticed a lot of homeless vets in the area and they seem ill prepared for the cold weather,” Mucciolo said. He has organized similar events for the homeless when he was in college and thought it would be a great idea for the Fort Campbell area.

Items collected will go to the Pennyroyal Veterans Center in Hopkinsville, which helps homeless veterans get on their feet.
