FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – It will be a happier Thanksgiving for many families as around 512 “Currahee” Soldiers with the 4th Brigade Combat Team returned to Fort Campbell Monday, November 25. One flight was welcomed home early Monday while the other Soldiers stepped off the plane into snow flurries in the afternoon.

The 101st Soldiers are coming home from a six-month deployment to Afghanistan and were treated to an exciting reunion at Campbell Army Airfield. In every welcome home ceremony for Screaming Eagles there are always family members and friends wearing t-shirts and carrying signs and banners welcoming home their special Soldier.

It was a scene repeated time and time again at the ceremonies as cheers rang out when the Soldiers stepped off the plane and again as they marched into the hangar. The most moving part of the welcome home ceremony is when the Soldiers are allowed time with their families and they run to each other for hugs and kisses.

Major Kamil Sztalkoper, Public Affairs Officer with the 4th Brigade who just recently returned from deployment himself, talked about the Soldiers returning. “It’s a great opportunity from the public affairs office to highlight the return of these Soldiers and to see these Soldiers interact with their family members after accomplishing a successful six-month mission in Afghanistan,” said Sztalkoper.
