CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Fort Campbell soldier has been charged with DUI following a motorcycle crash July 3 around 9:30 p.m. on Meriwether Dr.
According to an arrest warrant, a witness told police Cory Tyler Smith, 26, was driving recklessly and attempted a wheelie before crashing.
Both Smith and his passenger were ejected from the bike and sustained friction burns, and the female passenger had a possible broken finger.
The officer said Smith had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. He told the officer he had consumed one beer but was unable to perform a walking field sobriety test.
Smith was taken into custody and refused to give a blood sample. He and the passenger were transported to Gateway Medical Center for treatment.
A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw and the results are pending.
Smith was charged with DUI and vehicular assault and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
