CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Two local softball teams – Montgomery Central and Rossview High – extended their seasons by winning their postseason matchups on Monday.
The Lady Indians are representing the county in the class 3A tournament bracket. They qualified for their region tournament after finishing as the runner-up in their district against Greenbrier High.
Montgomery Central faced Central Magnet in the opening round of the regional tournament. The Lady Indians dominated their competition from start to finish.
MCHS won 14-3 and a big reason why is the difference in hits. Montgomery Central totaled 18 hits on the night while their defense limited Central Magnet to just 3.
According to Game Changer, Payton Harris started the game on the mound for MCHS, and she threw for a complete game. She totaled 7 innings pitched, 3 hits, 3 earned runs allowed, 7 walks and 4 strikeouts.
As for the offensive side of the ball, the following stood out for their production:
- Mallary Ashby – 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 2 walks and 3 runs batted in.
- Bella Davis – 4 for 5 with a double, 2 runs scored and 1 run batted in.
- Addison Beech – 3 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored, 1 walk and 2 runs batted in.
- Ava Bellar – 1 for 4 with a grand slam.
According to the TSSAA, Montgomery Central is scheduled to face Greenbrier High on Wednesday. The Lady Indians look for redemption after dropping the previous two matchups to Greenbrier this postseason.
Rossview vs. Northwest
Rossview High is representing the county in the class 4A tournament bracket.
The Lady Hawks competed against the Northwest Lady Vikings during the opening round of the regionals. Both Clarksville-area teams had a lot to celebrate coming into play.
Rossview was coming off a district championship victory over Springfield High last week. Meanwhile, Northwest High finished as the runner-up in their district championship against Henry County.
According to Northwest head coach Blake Lyons, this was the first time in 40 years that Northwest has advanced from the district tournament in softball.
Defensive showdown
The matchup between Rossview and Northwest in the region tournament was a defensive showdown to say the least, partly because of their starting pitching.
Madelyn Fillers was given the nod to start the game for the Lady Hawks, and Rossview couldn’t have asked for a better performance. According to Game Changer, Fillers pitched 7 innings during the game while only giving up 5 hits, 2 unearned runs and 1 walk. She also punched out three batters.
Meanwhile, her counterpart was just as dominant. Gabby Wolfe took the mound for the Lady Vikings, and she threw for a complete game. Wolfe compiled 7 innings pitched, while giving up 10 hits, 3 earned runs and 3 walks.
Each starting pitcher did more than enough to give their team a fighting chance down the stretch. However, in the end, Rossview High was able to walk it off in extra innings to secure their spot in the regional championship game.
According to the TSSAA, the Lady Hawks are scheduled to play Henry County High on Wednesday to declare the regional champions.
