Update, 10 a.m. Saturday: The streets are mostly clear, with a few patches of snow. It’s time to shovel those sidewalks and driveways!

Update, 8:30 p.m.: Snowfall has stopped in Clarksville, and the roads are mostly clear. Friday night’s low is 26, so overnight freezing is still possible. Saturday, the temperature will rise above freezing by 11 a.m., and Saturday’s high is 34 degrees.

Across Montgomery County, snow accumulation totaled 2 to 3 inches.

Update, 4 p.m.: While snowfall is continuing through about 8 p.m., snowfall so far hasn’t been as intense as predicted in Clarksville. Roadways downtown are mostly just wet, with some patches of sticking snow. Conditions could worsen, and the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect.

As of 4 p.m., Clarksville is at about 2 inches of snow.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Snow began coming down at about 7 a.m. Friday in Clarksville, and by 8, roads were beginning to turn white.

The National Weather Service is predicting 4-6 inches of snow for Clarksville, with 60-100% probability. There’s a 20-50% chance of over 6 inches. Heavier snowfall is forecast just southeast of us in the Waverly area, with up to 8 inches of snow.

Snowfall should end in Clarksville around 8 p.m. It could end as early as 6 p.m. or as late as 10 p.m., the NWS said

Roads will begin to become snow-covered and slippery Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, we’ll have major travel issues with slippery and snow-covered roads. Travel impacts will remain into Saturday.

Residents have been urged by Clarksville and Montgomery County officials to stay off the roads, both for their own safety and to help public safety officials clear the roads and respond to emergencies.

Gov. Bill Lee has declared State of Emergency to provide regulatory relief during the winter storm.

The “peak melting days” will be Sunday and Monday, according to the NWS. Sunday’s high should be near 40, and Monday’s high in the upper 30s.

Warming shelter

Anyone needing a place to get warm can go to the Clarksville Area Urban Ministries warming shelter at the Madison Street UMC Gymnasium, 300 Commerce St.

Anyone who is homeless can get on any City of Clarksville bus and tell the driver you need a ride to the shelter. They will take you there free.
