CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Five Clarksville men have been indicted by the Montgomery County grand jury and charged with the homicide of a 32-year-old man and the attempted murder of a 29-year-old man.
Lewis Timmons, 19, Kaleb Wilson, 25, Kamren Bennett, 21, Dorris Acree, 21, and Anthony Spencer, all of Clarksville, are charged in the shooting death of 32-year-old Joshua Ellis on July 21.
At approximately 9 p.m., Clarksville Police responded to a shooting on Givens Lane. When they arrived, Ellis was found laying on the ground with gunshot injuries. He was taken by LifeFlight medical helicopter to a Nashville-area hospital. He died from his injuries the next morning, according to news release from Jim Knoll, CPD spokesman.
That same night, around 9:15 p.m, a 29-year-old man was shot multiple times in Summit Heights. He was also taken by LifeFlight to a Nashville hospital for his injuries. He was treated and discharged from the hospital to recover.
The investigation led to several suspects being charged, and there are additional arrests pending in the case.
Another man has been charged in connection with the crimes.
Jaquan Dawes, 20, is charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, weapon possession in commission of a felony.
The five men who were charged originally with the following crimes:
Lewis Timmons, 19, was arrested in Knoxville and has since been booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He is charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, weapon possession in the commission of a felony, two counts of evading arrest, manufacture/sale of drugs, two counts of simple possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license.
Kaleb Wilson, 25, and Kamren Bennett, 21, were both already in the Montgomery County Jail on drug-related charges when they were served indictments. They are both charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon in the commission of a felony and felon in possession of a firearm.
Dorris Acree, 21, of Clarksville is charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, weapon possession in commission of a felony, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, drugs-felony amount, two counts of simple possession, and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
Anthony Spencer, 25, is charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and possession of a weapon in commission of a dangerous felony. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Jaquan Dawes, 20, is charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, weapon possession in commission of a felony.

The victim and suspects knew each other in one capacity or another, the news release said.
