CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A local man has been named as the person responsible for the two-vehicle crash that injured six people Sunday night on Madison St. in Clarksville.
Police responded to the crash around 11:14 p.m. on Madison St. between Alfred Dr. and Vannoak Dr. after Jamie Lee Drenth, 32, crossed the center lane in his vehicle, entering the oncoming traffic lanes, striking another vehicle and the occupants inside it, according to arrest warrants.
The 24-year-old male driver of the car that was struck was transported by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt in serious and critical condition, along with a 16-year-old passenger who suffered two broken legs and an 18-year-old female who suffered severe facial lacerations and severe spleen and liver damage. Three other victims were taken to Gateway with incapacitating injuries.
According to the warrants, Drenth was later located by officers “after attempting to flee from the scene in another vehicle.” He later stated that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the day while watching the football game at a party.
Officers noted that Drenth smelled strongly of alcohol. He was given a test to determine his blood alcohol content.
Drenth was charged with three counts of vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries, driving on a revoked license and failing to comply with insurance requirements. He was given a $150,000 bond. According to arrest warrants, he also had a previous DUI charge on March 10, 2011.
