FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) – A Simpson County deputy serving a warrant for a domestic violence assault in Franklin has been shot and wounded.
Kentucky State Police Trooper B.J. Eaton says the suspect fired on the deputy, striking him. The deputy was able to return fire and also struck the suspect.
The suspect fled but was quickly apprehended, and both he and the deputy were hospitalized.
Trooper Jeff Gregory said the shooting occurred at about 3:15 p.m. The deputy was taken to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, where he was in stable condition.
Kentucky State Police Trooper B.J. Eaton said in a news release Friday that upon being released from a hospital, Ben Wyatt III was arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, among other charges.
Police say Deputy Eddie Lawson was serving Wyatt with an arrest warrant Thursday afternoon when Wyatt shot Lawson and fled before being apprehended and hospitalized. The deputy was listed in stable condition.
It is unclear whether Wyatt has an attorney.
