CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) — Montgomery County will now take over operation of Fort Campbell’s Stray Animal Program. The Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA) between the United States Army and Montgomery County Government was signed Thursday, June 6.

The Montgomery County Commission unanimously approved the merging of the services at the May 13 formal commission meeting after adjustments were made to the proposal.
Implementation of the IGSA will result in approximately a 30 percent cost reduction per year to Fort Campbell. It will provide Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) with payment for services, additional personnel, as well as vehicles and supplies for Fort Campbell.
During the signing at the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters, both sides expressed gratitude and excitement for the partnership.

“Thanks to the whole team at Fort Campbell and Montgomery County. We can’t do this without a great partnership and this really helps solidify the bonds we have with the overall team,” said Colonel Joseph Kuchan, Fort Campbell Garrison Commander. “We’ve always said that we’ve had great support from Montgomery County.”
“This agreement is a win-win for the Fort Campbell and Montgomery County. I appreciate the Fort Campbell team and our staff at Animal Care and Control rolling up their sleeves and working together to get this done,” said Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett. “This agreement opens the door to future partnerships with Fort Campbell and the surrounding communities.”
“We view this as a tremendous opportunity to service not only our Montgomery County families but our Fort Campbell families as well,”said David Kaske, Director of Montgomery County Animal Care and Control. “We are humbled by the opportunity to serve the Fort Campbell community and we look forward to working with Fort Campbell staff and continuing the great service they have received.”
Montgomery County Animal Control Officers will be dispatched to humanely impound all domestic animals observed as strays. MCACC will transport all live captured animals to the MCACC facility or the Fort Campbell Stray Animal Impound Facility (SAIF).
Reclaimed animals that reside on Fort Campbell property must meet the requirements of the Fort Campbell Regulation 40-7 before returning to on-post housing.
