CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The City Finance Committee this week recommended approval for the Street Department to move forward with major sidewalk additions to Greenwood Avenue, one of several Tier 1 sidewalk projects in the Transportation 2020+ Plan.

According to Chris Cowan, engineering manager for the Street Department, who spoke at Tuesday’s meeting, the new sidewalks will be built on the east side of Greenwood Avenue, which will run from Crossland Avenue all the way down to Caldwell Lane.

If the project is approved by the City Council, The Street Department will begin negotiating with residents to acquire easements needed to add the sidewalks.

Cowan told Finance Committee members on Tuesday that his department will require easements on eight owners’ properties, most of which will be under 100 square feet.

According to the Transportation 2020+ Plan, the sidewalk project is scheduled to be done by fall 2024 with a final price tag of $4.2 million. It is one of five Tier 1 sidewalk projects in the plan.

Having passed through the Finance Committee, approval for the next step of the project will go before the City Council, who could discuss it as early as their executive session on Thursday, May 26.
