CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – One suspect was arrested and another fled the scene after a shoplifting incident at the Old Navy store inside of the Governor’s Square Mall Tuesday afternoon that left one Clarksville Police officer injured.
On Tuesday at about 4 p.m., officers with the Clarksville Police Department responded to a shoplifter at the mall, according to a news release from Lt. Charles Gill.

Upon the police arrival, two women attempted to flee the scene, and they both resisted arrest, the news release said. One officer was able to take one of the women, Sogavia McKenzie, into custody.
The other, unknown suspect was able to make it to a vehicle after injuring another officer’s shoulder, according to the release. Gill added that Clarksville detectives are actively investigating to identify and arrest her.
The officer was not seriously injured, and was not stabbed, the release said. Gill told Clarksville Now Wednesday morning that the officer was getting x-rays.
McKenzie was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, criminal impersonation and attempted escape. McKenzie was also allegedly injured from the altercation, the news release said, and while officers were attempting to see that she received medical treatment, she attempted to escape.
Officers were able to recover the shoplifted property, which is valued at $709, the release said.
