Shirleen Matlock, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the age of 74.

Shirleen was born in Washington, DC on June 19, 1950. Shirl was raised in Nebraska and graduated from Bryan High School, Omaha. She later moved to Douglasville, GA with her four children. Shirl graduated from Mercer University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Shirl worked for the Douglasville Police Department, then she went on to be a dispatcher for Douglas County 911. Shirl helped to upgrade to the enhanced 911 system. Later, Shirl worked at a battered women’s shelter as a legal advocate. Here she helped countless women obtain protective orders and supported the victims in court. This work inspired her to get her law degree from John Marshall Law School. She found a true love for helping these brave women.

Shirleen is preceded in death by her father: Howard Matlock, Mother: Rosalie (Fowler) Matlock, and two brothers Jerome Shawanesse and John Wasem.

Shirleen is survived by her sons Scott Saville (wife Mariah Saville) and Jay Saville, daughters Sharon Cain and Katherine (Saville) Eberlein (husband Eric Eberlein); Sister Susan Teczar (husband James Teczar); grandchildren Damian, Ethan, Matthias, Ezekiel, Alexander, Shelby and Connor; and one great-grandchild Mason.

A service to honor Shirleen will be held at a later date.
