CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s office is investigating a threat made on social media against Clarksville High School (CHS).
MCSO has an increased presence at the school Wednesday, Aug. 8 as a precaution. School officials said the threat has not been deemed credible, but all threats are taken seriously.
MCSO officials said they do not want the community to be alarmed by the increased presence of law enforcement at the school.
Sandra Brandon, Spokesperson for MCSO, said the threat originated from a group chat on Instagram involving three juveniles from Montgomery County. The three teens, who attend CHS, have been identified and detained for questioning.
“This type of activity cannot and will not be tolerated,” Sheriff Fuson said. “We will pick up right where we left off last school year, and prosecute each and every threat to the fullest extent while making examples of those who threaten the safety of our schools.”
School officials also commented on the investigation.
“We were made aware early today of a social media post involving a gun. The post was made in a ‘chat room’ with students from Clarksville High and a student from outside Montgomery County,” Clarksville-Montgomery County School System spokesperson Elise Shelton said in a statement. “Both city and county law enforcement have been investigating. This particular situation has not been deemed credible, but all threats are taken seriously and fully investigated. Parents are advised to talk to their students about the seriousness of making threats.”
