CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville heard the story behind last year’s manhunt of fugitive Kirby Wallace Tuesday from Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson and Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray.

The two shared details of the search for Wallace which spread fear throughout both communities until his capture on October 5 in Stewart County. Wallace is charged with killing two people, one victim in Stewart County and another in Montgomery County, along with a list of other charges.

They talked about the stress and how both of them couldn’t get any rest while worrying about the safety of their deputies and citizens in the community, as well as trying to do everything possible to make sure Wallace didn’t slip through their fingers.

Sheriff Fuson and Sheriff Gray both praised the many law enforcement agencies from across Tennessee and other states for their help, as well as dozens of businesses and organizations that supported law enforcement with food and supplies during the ordeal.

“You see all of the businesses and community members that stepped up to help us do what we needed to do. It was just without thought on their end to contribute that which really helped us. That was another worry we didn’t have to worry with,” Fuson said.

Sheriff Gray talked about what he called the true heroes.

“They pay us to do this, but they don’t pay the people in the community to come out and do what they did and I just can’t say enough for the people in Montgomery County and Stewart County,” Gray said.

Both men emphasized that since there was an ongoing investigation there were some details of the case they couldn’t discuss. Sheriff Gray did say he thinks there were accomplices before and after the crime.

“It’s ongoing and I hope that we’re going to arrest everybody that’s involved,” he said.
