SFC (Ret.) James Earl Slayton, 80, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Gateway Medical Center.

James was born on August 20, 1935, in Elizabeth, Louisiana to the late William Slayton and Dora Willis Slayton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rickey Slayton.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at Hilldale Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home and Wednesday, September 2, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

James was a Retired SFC with the U.S. Army. He served during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also retired from civil service. He was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church.

James is survived by his wife, Peggy Slayton of Clarksville; son, Randy (Vicky) Slayton of Cunningham, TN; daughter, Kimberly (Bobby) Conner of Cunningham, TN; brother, Billy (Bonnie) Slayton of Oakdale, LA; five sisters, Mary Anna Gvozd, Sue Maricle, Louise Pettit, Faye White of Oakdale, LA, and Gale Slayton of Lawton, OK; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Slayton, Billy Slayton, Steve Slayton, Bobby Conner, Donald Hollis, Smitty Linton, and Blaine Thompson.
