CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Parents with children on the autism spectrum have the opportunity to bring family members to a free showing of The LEGO Movie at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library (CMCPL) Saturday, Aug. 15 at 1:30 p.m.

Gentle lighting and lowered sound will provide a less-intense movie experience for family members with autism or sensory sensitivity. Audience members will be free to move around, talk, sing, and enjoy the movie as they see fit. The adjacent story time room will be open for anyone who needs a break from the movie. Parents are encouraged to bring their own snacks for the family and a pillow or blanket to make floor seating more comfortable. Chairs will be available.

“We are excited to be offering a sensory friendly movie screening for families and adults with special needs. There are very few recreational opportunities in Clarksville for this population, and we see this as a chance to provide meaningful programming for the underserved in our community,” said staff member and event organizer Jennifer Henry. “As the parent of a special needs child, I am proud to be a part of the direction the Library is taking in developing new ways of embracing the unique differences in our community.”

This program is geared toward children, but all ages are welcome. Registration is not required. The event will be first come, first served and limited to the size of the programming room.
