NASHVILLE, TN − State Sen. Bill Powers, R-Clarksville, officially began his second full term in the Tennessee Senate on Tuesday as he took the Oath of Office during the opening session of the 114th General Assembly. The ceremony took place in the Senate Chamber in Nashville, where other newly elected and reelected senators were also sworn in to their new terms. On Thursday, Powers was also appointed chairman of the Calendar Committee by Lt. Gov. Randy McNally.
“It is an honor to represent District 22 in the Tennessee Senate,” said Powers. “I’m excited to return to Nashville and continue working on meaningful legislation to improve our community and make Tennessee the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
McNally praised Senator Powers after appointing him as chairman.
“Bill Powers is a critical member of our Senate team,” said McNally. “He fights hard for his constituents and has a strong conservative temperament. I know he will make a great Calendar Committee Chair.”
Powers was re-elected in November to serve another four-year term. First elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 2019 in a special election, he represents Montgomery County. Powers was previously elected two terms to the Clarksville City Council. Additionally, he has served as Chairman of Clarksville Gas & Water and Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals. Prior to his legislative duties, Powers retired as Managing Partner at Wyatt-Johnson Automotive Group.
A longtime resident of Middle Tennessee, Powers lives in Clarksville with his wife. They are proud parents of three adult children.
