HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are investigating a crash involving a semi-truck and pickup truck that resulted in injuries.
The incident occurred on Interstate 24 eastbound between the 70 and 71 mile-marker on Sunday, February 14 at 6:55 p.m.
According to a release, Brian Stevens, 38, LaVergne, TN, was operating a 1997 Ford Ranger eastbound on I-24 in the right lane. Stevens lost control of his vehicle on the snow/slush covered roadway. It crossed both lanes of travel and struck the cable barrier.
The pickup truck came to rest in the eastbound, left lane of I-24. Due to the collision, the pickup truck was disabled, including its lights.
Stevens and his son, Gabrial Stevens, 16, exited the disabled pickup truck.
Henry Reuter, 58, Genoa, WI, was operating a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer hauling cheese on I-24 eastbound approaching the scene.
Because the pickup truck was disabled, Reuter could not see it in his lane of travel. The tractor-trailer struck the pickup truck, causing it to then strike Stevens and his son.
Stevens was transported via ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical center where he was treated and released. Gabrial Stevens was transported via ambulance to the Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, TN for treatment. Reuter, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.
