CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A semi truck crashed down an embankment into the woods on Highway 149 early Christmas morning.

At about 2 a.m., the 2020 Freightliner Cascadia was going eastbound on 149 near Highway 48, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report. No trailer was attached.

The truck entered the parking lot of 1879 Highway 48 then went off the roadway, crashing into an embankment and a creek, THP said.

Firefighters had to use a rope system to lift the driver up the embankment to an ambulance, according to Clarksville Now news partner Dash 10 Media.

The 31-year-old driver, from Mississippi, had to be extricated and then airlifted to Nashville via LifeFlight.

Firefighters from Cunningham, Palmyra and St. Bethlehem were assisted by Montgomery County EMS, Montgomery County EMA and Montgomery County Animal Control, assuming a pet was in the vehicle. Jones Towing came out to recover the semi.
