NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Nashville man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly using counterfeit money to purchase electronic items on Craigslist, according to WKRN News 2.
Police said 21-year-old Kenneth Strickland is a suspect in several fraud cases in which people sold items to him through Craigslist, only to discover the money he paid with was fake.
An affidavit states that Strickland bought an Apple Macbook Pro computer on Feb. 25 for $850. He reportedly paid with eight $100 bills and one $50 bill.
The victim later noticed the texture of the bills felt different and that five of the $100 bills had the same serial number.
A photo lineup including Strickland was shown to the victim, who reportedly positively identified Strickland as the man who paid for the computer.
Strickland was booked in the Metro jail in Nashville on charges of forgery and theft. His bond was set at $40,000.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.
