CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – After struggling to find their way offensively out of the gate on Tuesday, Clarksville girls basketball outscored Kenwood 21-2 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead en route to an eventual 54-37 road victory.
The Lady Wildcats had trouble figuring out Kenwood’s 3-2 zone in the early going, but a pair of three-pointers by Erin Lackey in the first half helped get Clarksville going.
“I think we may have tried to put the cart before the horse early on,” said Clarksville girls basketball coach Brian Rush. “Once the inside game started to work, the outside game started to work and we were able to knock down some shots.”
CHS displayed great ball movement throughout and were able to get easy baskets coming off of assists. Rush was pleased with the passing his team showed to set up a bevy of transition scores.
“We’re getting used to the group that we have,” Rush said. “We’ve lost three starters and used some different rotations. The key now is to avoid flu season and keep building toward the playoffs.”
The Lady Knights continued to play hard until the final buzzer. Reagan Fisher scored 12 fourth-quarter points, as Kenwood finished strong.
Clarksville has another district road test up next on Friday when they travel to take on Northwest.
“We’re just trying to get better,” Rush said. “A lot of these games in the regular season mean something for seeding, but they don’t really mean anything as far as the playoffs go yet. Come mid-February, that’s when the games really start to matter.”
Fisher finished with 15 points while Iyanna Curtis poured in 11 for the Lady Knights
Mya Collins and Nariah Nicholson led the Lady Wildcats with 12 points each.
Kenwood takes on Northeast Friday on the road.
