CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Let’s take a moment to find out about our January Community Hero, Scotty Hinton, and I’m sure you’ll agree he is very deserving for his service and his caring nature for the community.
Hinton is a firefighter who has served with Clarksville Fire Rescue for close to ten years. While we’re talking about heroes, let’s talk about firefighters. Hinton says he has been fortunate to have a group of guys that I look up to that are heroes in my eyes.
“They have helped me along the way, they have been there when I needed something and have really showed me what it means to be a public servant in every aspect,” Hinton said. He’s a Clarksville native who grew up in St. Bethlehem and Hinton says he used to ride his bicycle to visit the fire station on Trenton Road.
“Anything that anyone needs, my wife always says the magic word is help. If you call and ask me to do something I’ll do it. But if you call and say you need help doing something, Scotty’s going to jump and go help you,” Hinton said.
The relief effort for those affected by the wildfires in Gatlinburg was one of the things Hinton said he was proud to be a part of. He said he and other local firefighters wanted to be there to help but they weren’t part of the group sent by Clarksville Fire Rescue.
So he helped start a campaign on facebook to collect supplies to take to the folks in the Gatlinburg area that needed help. He added that Gatlinburg holds a pretty big place in his life because that’s where he got engaged.
Hinton’s wife Meagan, was the one who nominated him for the Community Hero honor and he said he had no idea she had done that until the voting started and she started sharing it on facebook.
He called his wife his biggest fan and said she supports him in all that he does. “I know I’ve probably left her hanging a few times to go and help somebody. She understands, she knows that’s kind of my passion in life is to serve others,” said Hinton.
Let’s not forget about the rest of the Hinton family. Scotty and Meagan are the proud parents of two young gentlemen, Weston who is six-years-old and three-year-old Jameson.
I want to thank everybody that voted I want to thank my wife for nominating me, thanks to anybody who thinks anything I do is heroic.
