CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A school threat message being shared on social media locally is being spread in other jurisdictions and states and appears to have nothing to do with Clarksville-Montgomery County, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The message being shared on Snapchat shows an image of a phone screen with a school shooting threat.

The message does not indicate any particular state, city or school. “This amounts to a typed version of a ‘swatting’ false call,” MCSO spokesman Bishop Delaney said.

“We have not found any corroborating evidence that this threat applies to any schools in our county,” he said. “We will continue to look into this matter. There will still be an additional law enforcement presence on school campuses tomorrow, but at this time, the threat is not deemed credible.”

Stop spreading rumors

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System urged locals not to spread the rumors.

“Please do not post or repost threats or rumors of school violence on social media,” CMCSS said in a statement. “This adds to the panic and confusion and makes investigating threats much more difficult for law enforcement and administrators.

“We want to remind all families that we take every threat and rumor seriously. Law enforcement and CMCSS will pursue charges and consequences to the fullest extent of the law for any person who makes a threat of school violence.”
