CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A local school resource officer helped a little dog get back to his owner this week.

Deputy Jim Knoll said he found the dog Tuesday on Trough Springs Rd.

“This little cutie was strolling down the middle of Trough Springs Rd. during the 5 o’clock work traffic rush,” Knoll said.

The small dog was traveling with another small breed dog that he described as brown and white and wearing a white collar with red trim.

“The carefree K-9s seemed oblivious or just didn’t care that cars had to swerve or stop to avoid making them part of the asphalt décor,” he said. “I stopped to see about getting the dogs out of the road and trying to locate an owner.”

The brown and white dog continued onward as Knoll called to him, but the black and white dog had another idea in mind.

“The dog in the photo decided rather quickly, after I opened the patrol car door, that he would prefer riding instead of walking. After all, it was a warm day and there was no water or food in sight. He jumped in the patrol car and made himself at home by looking out the window and then laying down on the passenger seat for a bit of a rest,” Knoll said.

Knoll said the dog did not have a collar, so he asked a friend to keep him safe while he tried to find the owner.

The little guy was safely returned to his family on Wednesday, thanks to help from Pet Palace and Family Pet Hospital.

“The forces really rally when it comes to animals,” Knoll said. “Pet Palace and Family Pet Hospital proved how they are more than just pet related businesses, but genuinely care about animals. Both of them immediately set the wheels in motion to assist with locating the owner,” he said.

Family Pet Hospital provided a phone number to contact the owner after receiving a post on their Facebook page about the dog. Pet Palace contacted Knoll and had been in touch with the owner, Brandy. “They were even willing to pick up “Oz” from my friend’s house and return him to the owner. I spoke to Brandy myself and assured her that Oz did not have a tough time of it in his overnight residence. He was well fed, had a puppy playmate, and slept on a nice comfy human bed. Also, my friend also took Oz for a morning walk with her dog,” Knoll said.

When Oz arrived at Pet Palace, a 4-year-old girl was beyond excited to see Oz reunited with the family.

“I can’t say thanks enough to Family Pet Hospital and Pet Palace for their role in returning Oz home and for my friend, Jeanine, for providing the 5 Star overnight stay for Oz’s night away from home,” Knoll said.
