CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Scammers who identify themselves as Clarksville Police officers, even assuming the names of retired officers, have been calling people and requesting money.
According to a news release from CPD, instead of serving the individuals with a warrant, the scammers ask them to transfer money or submit financial information. This a scam. CPD will never call and ask for financial details or to transfer money so that a warrant won’t be served, police said. No legitimate law enforcement agency will do this either.
Although CPD and reputable law enforcement agencies may call and ask you to turn yourself in, they will never demand money.
CPD said that if you receive one of these calls, you should immediately hang up.
Contact CPD or the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office if you’re worried you might be wanted on a warrant, and an officer or deputy will look into it for you.
