CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) would like to alert the community of a scam that has resurfaced.

How the scam operates:

The intended victim receives a phone call from a person who identifies himself as a Captain, Lieutenant, or Sergeant with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The caller will identify you by name and say you have a warrant on file or you have missed jury duty.

The caller will say you will be arrested unless you pay a fine and instruct you to put money on a prepaid credit card or Green Dot card. Once you purchase the card, you are given a phone number to call back so you can give them the account number off the card.

Sheriff John Fuson would like to remind residents that MCSO does not call citizens and ask for money over the phone.

If you have elderly parents, please inform them of this scam to avoid becoming a victim.
