CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – If you’ve never been to the Open House for the Trees of Christmas at the historic Smith-Trahern Mansion, you are truly missing out. It’s one of Clarksville’s loveliest traditions.
The event is on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Smith-Trahern Mansion, which is located at 101 McClure Street (at the corner of 1st Street). It is free and open to the public.
Santa Claus will be at his finest, with flowing beard, bright red suit and a charming pair of old-fashioned spectacles. For no charge, parents can bring their cameras and take photos of their children with Santa, which is a real treat.
Additionally, there is the gorgeous backdrop of the Smith-Trahern Mansion, where 32 designers have decorated 20 beautiful Christmas trees that fill the rooms. The theme this year is “C You on the Cumberland,” so the designers have created displays that are about water and the commerce of the Cumberland River.
It is a sight to see and a setting that fills any photo with nostalgia. (If you are one of those people who design your own photo card for Christmas, this event is filled with photo opportunities).
Light refreshments will be served and there will be entertainment, as well. The event is hosted by the Home of Family and Community Education “Life Skills Learning Center” in partnership with The University of Tennessee Extension of Montgomery County and the City of Clarksville.
The Trees of Christmas will continue to be on view from Dec. 2 to Dec. 5 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 to Dec. 13 for the same hours. A $2 admission is charged for adults during these days. For more information, call Martha Pile at 931-648-5725 or email her at mmpile@utk.edu.
