CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) There are going to be a lot of happy and healthier kitties at Cats R Us in Clarksville because of the generosity of one local business, Sango Veterinary Hospital. The hospital donated 100 flea collars to the animal shelter Thursday.
Owner Chuck Whitbeck talked about why they made the donation and about Suzzanne Harpel, Director of Cats R Us. “We are giving back to those who have given so much in our community,” said Whitbeck.
Whitbeck added that a lot of people aren’t aware of the impact she has on the animal population in town. “It’s a dirty job, it’s a thankless job, and not only Cats R Us, but the other rescues are working with limited budgets and limited means and we are fortunate we can give back to her,” Whitbeck said.
Whitbeck said he contacted Bayer, who makes the Seresto, which is an eight-month flea and tick control collar. At any given time there are around 80 cats at the shelter and he said the collars will help fight the flea problem which can lead to other health problems in the animals.
Sango Veterinary Hospital donated just over $3,000 for the cost of the flea and tick collars with Bayer adding $1,000. Sango Veterinary Hospital is at 2400 Madison St. Suite 3 and Jennifer Whitbeck is the Doctor of Veterinay Medicine. Both Chuck and Jennifer Whitbeck are military veterans.
“I’m just totally astounded, this is absolutely just out of our dreams, it’s fabulous. It’s an amazing clinic and they’re lovely people and they care about the animals so that means a lot to us,” said Harpel. She added that fleas and ticks have been a major problem over the past couple of years.
