CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Salvation Army is moving forward with its programs to help people who are in need over the holiday season and is looking for donations of food from the community to make that happen.

Captain Chris Coulson with the Salvation Army said that boxes of food for senior citizens that are given out each season are one of their biggest needs at this time. This year there are around 150 seniors who have requested assistance from the organization for Thanksgiving.

Coulson added that what they’re asking for from the community are not just turkeys, but also all of the fixings that go along with a meal like stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and corn. The donations will be boxed up and distributed to seniors on November 24, in time for Thanksgiving.

The Salvation Army is also kicking off its annual Red Kettle Campaign and is looking for volunteers to ring bells at local businesses through December 24. If you would like to be a bell ringer and help raise funds for the organization to continue their work in the community go to www.ringbells.org and sign up.

There are also some paid positions for bell ringers available for the Red Kettle Campaign. The pay is $7.25 an hour and they are hiring now through the first week of December. You will need to stop by the Salvation Army at 210 Kraft Street, Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and bring a photo ID and Social Security card.
