CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Salad Station, a pay-by-the-pound salad franchise, is coming to Clarksville later this year.

Salad Station is a build-your-own style restaurant offering over 100 toppings for salads, baked potatoes and yams. They offer a variety of soups and craft lemonade as well.

Shona McLaurin, an assistant principal at Kenwood High School, plans to open the Salad Station on Kraft Street. She told Clarksville Now she got the idea to after visiting one of their locations in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

“I fell in love with the concept when I saw it in January,” McLaurin said. “As soon as I opened up the door, I don’t know if you’ve ever had one of those moments, but it was like an ‘aha’ moment for me. Everything was clean and fresh.”

Healthy eating is important to McLaurin, whose family has a history of high blood pressure and diabetes.

“Salads are a way to help my family eat better as well as to promote health with other people,” she said.

McLaurin has wanted to open her own restaurant for some time, but life always seemed to get in the way.

“We have cooks all in our family. We’ve always wanted to open a family restaurant. What we envisioned was a meat-and-three, but it never did come together. We were looking at a space one time, and then we had an ice storm in Clarksville. It just never came to pass, and I’m a woman of faith, so I do believe that wasn’t the time for us.”

She also wanted to assure her students that she will be remaining at Kenwood as an assistant principal, with family members helping to run Salad Station during school hours.

Salad Station is expected to open late this year at 882 Kraft St.
