CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Safe Place Family Transitional Center, part of Clarksville Urban Ministries, hosted an open house for the new location that will provide living space, counseling and other services for up to four families at a time. The facility, at 815 Crossland Ave., has four family rooms with bathrooms, a full kitchen, children’s play room, and washers and dryers.

Safe Place will also offer a computer desk and counseling programs to to help families in their search for employment and other services. Families will stay at the facility for six weeks to approximately 90 days. The center is manned with staff and volunteers 24/7. While at the center the staff and volunteers will help provide enrichment opportunities for the parents and children.

Beverly Dycus, Executive Director of Urban Ministries, a United Way agency, talked about the new facility. “It’s going to be an opportunity to get some homeless families with children off the streets and to a safe facility where they can move from homelessness to permanency through the use of this facility and the programs it’s going to offer,” said Dycus.

There are many opportunities for volunteers at Safe Place such as dinner hosts, weekend and overnight hosts, children’s tutoring and adult programming featuring enrichment activities. There are also a number of immediate needs that can be met through private donations of funds or new and gently used items as well as professional services.
