Clarksville, Tenn. (ClarksvilleNow) – Three runaway teens took advantage of an opportunity to steal an SUV Monday evening, September 16, in a grocery store parking lot.
At approximately 8:45 p.m, a man stopped at the Madison Street Kroger and parked his 2004 Toyota Highlander in the fire lane in front of the store. He shut off the car, put the keys on the floor board and left the car unlocked while he ran in to pick up food.
In less than a minute, three runaway teens exited the store, got into the parked SUV, found the keys on the floor board and drove off.
The stolen SUV was spotted and Officer Trescott performed a traffic stop within minutes after it was taken. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.
The three juveniles, some with other charges already pending, were taken in custody and transported to a juvenile detention facility.
The lead investigator is Detective Parkes.
