CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Regional Planning Commission has begun work on the “Clarksville-Montgomery County Comprehensive Plan: A Vision for Today, Tomorrow and Beyond,” and is asking residents to weigh in.

The plan will serve as a guide for the next 20 years on land use, development and public infrastructure investment. Key components of the plan will include housing and neighborhoods, economic development, transportation, utilities, parks and the environment.

A growing community

This comes at a time of rapid growth; more people are moving to Clarksville than ever, creating a high-demand housing market. The RPC has seen a major increase in zoning cases, subdivision plans and site reviews in the past two years.

To help guide this growth, the RPC is working with planning firm Houseal-Lavigne to create the new comprehensive plan, according to a city news release. HL Planning has worked on more than 150 comprehensive plans around the country.

Members of their team will visit Montgomery County at the end of March to meet with elected officials and key stakeholders. They will also hold community-wide workshops and meetings later this summer.

“Once completed, the Comprehensive Plan will be the product of the community, with a vision and recommendations guided by valuable input received from residents, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders,” said city spokesman Henry Kilpatrick in the release.

How to get involved

As part of the planning process, the RPC wants to hear from the community.

“Whether you are a lifelong resident or a recent transplant; a student or military member; a renter, homeowner, or landlord; retired, an employee, a small entrepreneur, or large business owner; every voice matters in this process, and the RPC is looking for everyone to participate,” said Kilpatrick in the release.

Community input is being gathered through the RPC’s Comprehensive Plan website at www.cmcrpc.com/compplan. At the website, residents can fill out a questionnaire, view maps and receive updates.
