Roy Monroe Chester, age 92 of Clarksville, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at his home.
He was born September 23, 1922 in Montgomery County, TN to the late Walter Monroe Chester and Laura Evans Chester. Roy was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ewing, Howard and Elzie; and two sisters, Lois Caroland and Eula Hawkins.
Roy retired from the City of Clarksville Street Department. He was a Navy Veteran, having served in the South Pacific during World War II, for which he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Chester was a member of Pardue Memorial Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8 at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Len Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7 and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Larry Chester, Michael Chester, Jeffrey Chester, Roger Sensing, and Johnny Sensing.
Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nell Chester; two sons, Larry (Vicky) Chester and Michael (Dianne) Chester; sister, Mary Myatt; and grandson, Jeffrey Roy Chester (Roy’s good buddy), all of Clarksville; two step grandchildren, Heather Powell and David Weatherholtz; and three step-great grandchildren, Jameston Powell, Madelynn Powell, and Brandon Weatherholtz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Ministry at Pardue Memorial Free Will Baptist Church, 1895 Memorial Drive, Clarksville, TN 37043.
