Rowena Harriett Morris Key, age 92, of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Spring Meadows Healthcare Center.
Rowena was born April 10, 1922, in Montgomery County, TN, to the late William Burton Morris and LaLa Marie Walker Morris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Logan Key.
Mrs. Key was a buyer at Mademoiselle’s and Lee’s Ladies Shop.
During World War II, Rowena served as a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol and the local Red Cross. She was active in numerous civic organizations and served as president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Clarksville Memorial Hospital Ladies’ Auxilary, and the Clarksville Country Club Ladies’ Association.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, November 21, at Trinity Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Dorothy Hartzog officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 20 at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, and from a.m. until the hour of service on Friday, November 21, at the church.
Rowena is survived by daughter, Donna Marie Magee (David) Balthrop, of Clarksville; son, Larry Michael (Deb) Howland, of Hampton, FL; sister, Mary Lee Vaughan, of Cunningham, TN; grandson, John David Balthrop, of Gainesville, FL; niece, Marie (Gerald) Davenport; great-niece, Dawn (John) Thayer; great-great-niece, Jami Davenport; and nephews, Morris Lee Cutsingerand and C.A. Cutsinger.
Pallbearers will be Ed Sneed, Raymond Teague, Edmund Terrell, Wade Hadley Sr., Buford Thaxton, John David Balthrop, Albert Marks, Jim Schacht. Honorary pallbearers will be Brown Harvey Jr., Bob Batson, Ted Norris, Gordon Hawkins, Tom Askew, and Don Dority.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library, 350 Pageant Lane, Clarksville, TN 37040; or the Altar Guild Fund, c/o Trinity Episcopal Church, 317 Franklin Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
Mrs. Key’s family also wishes to extend a special thanks to AseraCare Hospice and Spring Meadows Healthcare Center for the excellent care provided.
