CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rossview High senior forward Landon Hankemeier has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week after nearly averaging a double-double and hitting a game-winning shot.

During the week of Jan. 8, the Hawks boys’ basketball team played against the Kirkwood High Cobras and Montgomery Bell Academy.

Rossview’s contest against Kirkwood marked their third district matchup of the season and it did not disappoint. Throughout the game, each team fought for the upper hand, however, the game was not decided until the final second of play.

Hankemeier calls game

The game was tied at 67, and Rossview had the ball with three seconds left against the Cobras. Rossview head coach Johnny Jackson told Clarksville Now he trusted Hankemeier to hit the game winning shot, so he designed an out of bounds play to put the ball in his hands.

The Hawks executed the play to perfection, and Hankemeier wasted no time sealing the win for Rossview, 69-67.

“You know, with Landon being a third-year starter, there’s no moment that’s too big for him,” Jackson said. “He’s a very intelligent young man with a high basketball IQ. … He’s a clutch-type player.”

Hankemeier scored and rebounded with ease throughout the contest as he finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds. The senior forward used his momentum to his advantage against Montgomery Bell Academy in the Hawks next game.

Hankemeier finished the second game of the week with a double-double after scoring 25 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. Sadly, despite a career night, Rossview fell to Montgomery Bell 77-81.

On the season, Hankemeier leads his team in statistical categories including points, rebounds and blocks. While he hasn’t made a decision about his future, Hankemeier is being recruited to play at the next level by several schools.
