CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The first annual Rossview Girls Invitational was held Saturday, January 4 at Rossview High School. The tournament was comprised of 27 schools with 168 wrestlers competing from three states.

The championship bracket featured nationally-ranked wrestlers, state medalists, and first-year wrestlers from across Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia.

This was the first and only all girl’s tournament held this season and the largest girl’s tournament ever held in the state.

The tournament-team champion was two-time state champion Rossview with 311 points followed by Tullahoma with 220 points.

The most outstanding wrestler and best match awards went to Saqara Buchanan of Rossview for her performance in the first-place match at 140 pounds against Tristen Music of Hiram High School (GA), where she defeated the nationally-ranked wrestler in sudden victory.

The awards were determined by the coaches from each team and the voting was unanimous.

Another intriguing match of the day was first-year wrestler Taylor Howell of Clarksville High School going against nationally-ranked and first-in-state Robin Yunis for first place at 125 pounds. Yunis defeated Howell with a pin, but the two may likely meet again at the state championships later this year.

Rossview girls wrestling is led by head coach Jeff Price and assistant coaches Deanna Yohe and Brad Warren.
