MURFREESBORO, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview Hawks traveled to Richard Siegel Park in Murfreesboro for the TSSAA state soccer quarterfinal against Hendersonville High on Tuesday, May 21. While the Hawks kept Hendersonville off the board in the second half, it was already too little too late.
As the game started, Hendersonville High controlled possession of the ball, and were able to pressure Rossview’s defense on their way to net three goals in the first half.
Rossview High head coach Seth Ramsey acknowledged that it was a less-than-ideal start against the No. 2 ranked team in the state.
“We just couldn’t find any rhythm in the first half of the game,” Ramsey told Clarksville Now. “We had chances but couldn’t capitalize on them.”
Coming out of the halftime break, Rossview’s defense went on to lock down the Commandos, who went scoreless for the rest of the game. The Hawks defensive effort was led by region 7 defensive player of the year Joshua Villa. As for the offensive end, Jakob Fuss netted a goal in the 65th minute to cut the deficit to a two-score game. However, that would be Rossview’s lone goal before the game ended with the Hawks losing 1-3 and ending their season.
“I’m extremely proud of the way these young men fought,” Ramsey said. “They’re a great group and they did everything we asked them to do. The Hawks can hold their heads high, as they’re one of only three teams in school history to advance to state, and the first since 2019. This team is a high character group, and as coaches we love them.
“Today hurts, because this is a special team, and I don’t use that lightly. I believe this team is set up to have success if they follow the model that has been laid out for them by the senior class,” said Ramsey.
