Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Wildcats traveled to Exit 8 for the region 7-3A championship against the Rossview Hawks, their third matchup of the season. The Wildcats took the lead early, but the game ended up being tied late before Rossview’s Luke Ramsey netted the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute to clinch the Hawks fourth consecutive region title.
The Wildcats came out fired up, starting the game with senior midfielder Alex Todd scoring a penalty kick goal in the fifth minute to get the game started. However, Rossview senior forward Luke Russell also netted a penalty kick before the end of the first half to send the teams into the halftime break tied at one all.
In the second half, both defenses, captained by CHS goalie Jacob Wiggins and Rossview goalie Jacque Collins, were lights out. Through 34 minutes of second half actoin, neither team could break through to take the lead. That was until Ramsey came away with a clutch score to put the Hawks ahead by one, which ended up being the game winner. With their 2-1 win over their rival, Rossview earned their fourth straight region 7-3A championship.
Now, following their loss, the Wildcats will travel to Houston High School, while Rossview will host Bartlett for a set of sub-state win-or-go-home games, with a trip to Murfreesboro on the line. For Rossview, it would be their second straight state tournament berth.
“The message going into Saturday is the same as it’s been all postseason, we need everybody’s best each time out,” said Hawks head coach Seth Ramsey. “If we can get everybody clicking at the same time, it gives us our best shot. Obviously, we are happy to be hosting the sectional game, but at the end of the day, no matter what field we play on, we need our guys playing confidently and at their highest level. We are happy to be here, but the goal is and always will be Murfreesboro.”
