Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –The Rossview High Hawks hosted the Clarksville High Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon as the two teams came together to resume action in the bottom of the fifth inning after play was suspended for their game on Monday due to severe weather.

Rossview’s Jordan Akins first at-bat of the day was a two-RBI single, and the Hawks built off their momentum to capture a 10-8 win and regular season series split at one game apiece against CHS.

The game resumed with Atkins stepping into the batter’s box with the bases loaded and a 1-2 count. To say the least, the senior took advantage of his opportunity at the plate and delivered a two-RBI single to cap off a five-run, two-day long fifth inning.

The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, courtesy of first baseman Houston Hebert’s RBI Double. However, Clarksville’s Jack Wyatt closed the door on any more run support.

While Clarksville High flirted with a comeback following Korbin Reynolds driving in a run off a RBI single in the top of the seventh, Rossview High pitcher Jayden Gaylor closed out the game, earning the Hawks a 10-8 victory.

“This game wasn’t lost today, it was lost Wednesday,” said CHS head coach Brian Hetland. “Jack did what we asked him to do and eventually got out of that jam. We just came up a hit short today. We didn’t handle the baseball very well, and you can’t do that against an offensive club like this. It is what it is, and they deserve it. We’re probably going to see these guys again.”

Rossview clinched a regular season series split with the Wildcats following their win, but Clarksville High will end up as the number one overall seed in the district due to run differential. However, it’s a huge win for the Hawks in a unique scenario, and one that Rossview head coach Parker Holman is proud of.

“I’m proud of the guys for showing up in a weird game and a weird situation,” said Holman. “My guys were ready to go from pitch one.  Gaylor was huge, it’s a testament to his character how he handled that, and he wanted the ball. They’ve got a good club, and we’ve got a whole lot more baseball left to be played.”
