SPRINGFIELD, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview Hawks took their shot in the Region 7-4A semifinals against the Henry County Patriots in a win-or-go-home matchup on Monday. The Hawks battled through injuries and foul trouble to bring it to within four with 30 seconds left, but couldn’t find the bottom of the net, and fell 47-41.
The Hawks started the game on an 8-0 run before the Patriots quickly struck back with a run of their own. Neither team could score often, but every time they did, the other returned the favor quickly. The two teams traded blows all the way until the fourth quarter, when Henry County took a late lead and started time-wasting to play the foul game. Rossview suffered a few players with injuries, and had a few players in foul trouble, so an already thin rotation got thinner.
“We fought really hard and left it all on the floor,” said Hawks head coach Clay Head. “You could tell our girls were so tired cause they had given everything they had. We don’t have a ton of depth, but they didn’t give up, and I’m proud of them.
While the Hawks fought within striking distance, a few last-second shot attempts couldn’t find the net for Rossview. Despite a 15-point performance from forward Ellie Hankemeier, the Hawks fell to Henry County, ending their season.
“This class built a culture in the locker room; they’re fantastic leaders,” said Head. We’ve had a lot of success on the floor, but I’m really proud of the things they’ve done off the floor and the types of people they are. We talked to the younger girls to keep the traditon going. We beat a lot of really good teams, so overall, it stinks right now, but we’ve had a lot of positives this year.”
