CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Rossview High School’s Mark-Anthony Prescott has committed to Princeton University and will play football for the Tigers in 2021.
“I’d probably say that Princeton and I have the best relationship,” Prescott said. “The coaches frequently talk to me every week. I’ve talked to the entire staff, virtually visited the school and the other players in the Class of 2021 who also committed there just felt more like family than at any other school.”
According to Prescott, the chance at an Ivy League education factored heavily in his decision.
“Definitely,” Prescott answered. “Not too many people can go and especially with me being an African American it’s quite the opportunity to have, so I feel like I should take it.”
The highly touted linebacker has received a bevvy of scholarship offers from other schools most notably Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Army, Navy, Air Force, Howard, Yale, Penn and Austin Peay.
“My college recruitment process probably started in late February and early March,” Prescott said. “My first offer came from the University of Tennessee. Everything started blowing up for me in the following months.
“It’s kind of been hard because COVID hasn’t allowed me to visit any of the schools and nobody really knew what was going to happen in the summer,” he said. “It’s been a waiting game just to see what they would or wouldn’t allow us players to do.”
Prescott’s family has been nothing but supportive of his decision to head north to continue his athletic and academic career.
“I’ve never been to New Jersey before, so I’m kind of just going in blindly,” Prescott said. “My parents are really just proud that I’m going to college in the first place.”
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Prescott is a 4.0 student who works equally as hard in the classroom as he does on the field.
“I’d say my calculus teacher Mr. Avery (William) is probably the teacher who has impacted me the most,” Prescott said. “Just because we’ve had so many conversations not just talking about math. He helped me a lot throughout my junior year, which was my hardest year academically.”
Prescott is grateful to his Hawk family for helping him unearth his true potential, as he gears up for his next chapter in life.
“Coach Hood (Todd) has put in the good work for me throughout the entire process, understanding what it’s like to be a Division I recruit,” Prescott said. “He let me make my own decision too and I know if I ever need anything he’d be more than willing to help.”
Fans can get a chance to see Prescott live in action locally during Rossview’s next home game at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, against Mt. Juliet.
