CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rossview High football is coming off a season where they finished with a subpar overall record of 2-8. This included a five game losing streak to end the 2021-22 season.
The Hawks are led by head coach Todd Hood. This season marks the fifth year that he has been the head of the football program. Hood has accumulated an overall record of 18-25, but this includes winning five or more games in three out of his previous four seasons.
Hood told Clarksville Now that summer practices have emphasized players working on their technique, and the offense learning a new system that has been implemented.
Hood explained that players are trying to perfect this offensive system quickly, so they can progress and work on other game plans. As for the defense, one vocal point they are focusing on is they are preparing a new group of defensive starters.
2022-23 football season
According to Max Preps, Rossview High lost quite a bit of production on the defensive side of the ball this past season. As an example, the senior class accounted for 51% of the total tackles throughout the 2021-22. However, the head coach doesn’t seem fazed.
“We’ve got a multitude of players that can make an impact and step up on defense,” said Hood. “We are going to make up for lost production collectively as a team. We are headed in the right direction with the overall increase in numbers, enthusiasm that the players display and the hard work the team has put in so far. It’ll be fun for us to see how much we can improve.”
Hood has expectations for his team to compete during each week throughout the 2022-23 campaign. “Last years team wasn’t as competitive as we had hoped, but I believe this team is better in a lot of different areas,” said Hood.
“During the season last year, we were mentally immature, physically immature and we weren’t very strong in the weight room. The coaching staff has seen improvements in each of these areas, and now it is time for us to prove ourselves on the field.”
Rossview football is scheduled to begin their season on August 19, 2022 against Wilson Central High School. Later this week, Clarksville Now will travel to Clarksville High to continue the 2022 football season preview.
