CLARKSVILLE, TN – Montgomery County’s middle school cross country teams gathered Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Clarksville Academy Sports Complex for the Montgomery County Middle School Cross Country Championships.
On another hot, humid and sunny morning, runners from across the county competed over a two-mile course featuring two spectator-friendly loops of the Clarksville Academy Sports Complex.
Rossview Middle School captured the boys team championship, followed by Kirkwood in second and Richview in third. On the girls side, Kirkwood claimed the county championship, with Richview finishing second and Rossview third.
Individually, Rossview’s Laney Blake and Montgomery Central’s Wyatt Balthrop were crowned Montgomery County champions. Both runners separated themselves from their respective fields to earn decisive victories.
Two underclassmen also turned in impressive runner-up performances. Montgomery Central seventh grader Ava Gunter finished second in the girls race, while Kirkwood sixth grader Brennan Conlon took second in the boys race. Both will enter next season as the top returning county finishers.

The postseason continues Saturday, Sept. 26, when Montgomery County teams and individual runners compete in the Middle Tennessee Region Middle School Cross Country Championships at Welch College/Station Camp High School. The meet serves as a qualifying competition for the TMSAA State Cross Country Championships.
The TMSAA State Championships will return to Clarksville on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Weakley Park.
